Abbotsford’s Historic downtown is considered by residents as the heart of the city, characterized by small-scale, independently-owned businesses on historic streetscapes. A plan was created to protect its historic character and improve the public realm, while also introducing higher residential densities in support of broader city-wide goals of supporting transit and providing housing choices for more people. 

The project included design workshops and an engagement process that took the project to the people through activities that ranged from pop-up engagement at outdoor public festivals, to interactive “conversation boards” stationed inside businesses throughout the downtown.
