For the first time in its history, Vancouver Coastal Health set out to redevelop part of its lands to generate revenue for health care, while also creating a model for neighbourhood wellbeing. The 10 ha Pearson Dogwood lands are located on Vancouver’s Cambie Corridor, and the outcome of the process is a plan for social housing, housing for people with complex care needs, market housing, childcare, a therapy pool, community health facilities, urban agriculture, park spaces, active transportation infrastructure, and shops and services.

The engagement process reached existing complex care residents and their families, neighbours, community groups including local urban farmers, and the City’s advisory committees representing seniors, people with disabilities, and active transportation advocates.

The project culminated in a policy statement that was unanimously adopted by City Council, and is now in the process of being implemented.
